How to make an Amar Chitra Katha

Into the Editorial

Our editor, Reena Puri, often tells us what it was like working for Uncle Pai. We missed that chance but from what I see, the laughter and the sweat are quite the same.

Walk into the Amar Chitra Katha editorial in Bangalore and you’ll see workstations overflowing with books, scripts, illustrations, papers, pens, comics, snack boxes and other such things. The editorial is more or less the hub from where every comic starts its journey. The ideas, the schedules and the research all begin here. Work is exacting but so much fun too. Delving into the stories about Saraswati or figuring out the life of Salim Ali, it is a place where we can immerse ourselves in different worlds (even while listening to ’A Hard Day’s Night’ or ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’).

The posts to follow will hopefully involve you in our work and you’ll get a glimpse into the Amar Chitra Katha editorial; the fun, the trauma, the food, the music, the conversations and lots more…
